Mental Disorders – A group of over 200 illnesses with a broad range of presentation. The most common diagnoses are: depression, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, dementia, intellectual disabilities and developmental disorders such as autism. Psychiatric disorders are highly complex diseases with limited knowledge of the etiology. Epigenetic mechanisms are identified as important effectors in psychiatric conditions, and investigated as the link between genetics and an individual’s lifelong exposure to the environment.
